This particular Donald Byrd album cover is one of my favorite artwork designs of all time. The simplicity is amazing to me, as well as color combination, positive/negative space, direction of lines and shapes… all of it. In fact, the well-documented Blue Note designer Miles Reid was pretty much killing shit at the time. Below is a collage of some of his work… and mind you, computers and photoshop didn’t exist.
