I recently completed my latest mix, “Collections & Connections, vol. 1”… it’s a concept mix based entirely on song-to-song relationships (might be a sample, might be wordplay, etc, etc). Feel free to download or pass the link along to anyone of interest.

So after Exile’s performance on the 21st, we’re going to open up the sound system to basically anyone that wants to play material, new or old, in front of a crowd. Maybe you want to test the mix on a new record, or maybe you haven’t heard it outside of your car or headphones yet, or maybe you just want to get the reaction from a crowd of people. Whatever it is, this is your opportunity… and it’s only $5 to get in all night regardless. I’d suggest getting to the show early enough to see Exile perform though… trust me, you won’t be mad.

You can call it the pre-cursur to contemporary jazz. You can call it selling out. Or you can refer to the Donald Byrd album entitled Black Byrd an album that revolutionized the sound of fusion jazz, as it’s sound was (and still is being) duplicated. Black Byrd was recorded in 1972, which was a bit earlier than other jazz fusion albums with a head nodding, driving 4/4 beat. This album was danceable, as it was one of Blue Note Records most popular releases, and as you could guess, it’s success received a lot of flack from Byrd’s contemporaries.

Thanks to the homie @SeanieMIC! This was made by @JasonRNewman and I saw it from a tweet from my homie Sean. GREAT. Rappers spelling their names (which I have done before and might do again, it’s a hip-hop thing) in songs. So cooooooool how it’s put together.

I know most of these records, and this made me want to hear them. Expect an all hip-hop mix shortly.
